Titus & Ryan Judge to preside in the O.J. Simpson Case

As if things in the Titus & Ryan trial weren’t bizarre enough… Judge Jackie Glass will now preside over the O.J. Simpson trial. More info on the judge are found in a recent press release by Ken Ritter.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — In an earlier time, Jackie Glass would have been covering O.J. Simpson’s trial instead of presiding over it.

Before becoming a lawyer and being elected a Clark County District Court judge, Glass was a television journalist covering courts in Las Vegas. She met her husband, then a deputy district attorney and now a Las Vegas city councilman, in the courthouse hallways.

“She’s got some experience covering and being around high-profile cases,” said Steve Wolfson, a defense lawyer who married Glass the same month she received her law degree in 1984 from the University of San Diego School of Law. “I have every confidence in the book that she’ll do a great job on this case.”

Glass, in her fifth year of a six-year term, has handled several celebrity cases, but nothing as headline-grabbing as the hotel-room confrontation in which Simpson and two other men are accused of kidnapping and robbing two sports memorabilia dealers.

Through her administrative clerk, Glass declined to comment.

Glass, 51, practiced law for almost 20 years, focusing on civil law for more than a decade as a partner with her husband.

In 2002, she raised and spent more than $400,000 to win a seat on the bench paying about $130,000 a year. She defeated a judge who spent more than $280,000 but lost his bid for a third term after Glass accused him of being soft on crime.

By the end of her first year on the bench, Glass helped establish a county mental health court, and she pushed for creation of a competency court in 2005 to review the mental ability of defendants to stand trial.

Glass sent former NFL kicker Cole Ford to a state mental hospital in 2005 after finding him incompetent to stand trial for shooting at the Las Vegas home of entertainers Siegfried & Roy. Ford later agreed to a plea deal that required him to continue mental health treatment.

Glass also oversaw the jury trial of a California minister and his wife who were convicted of trying to extort millions of dollars from the husband of singer Celine Dion. Ae Ho Kwon’s wife, Yun Kyeong Kwon Sung, claimed the singer’s husband, Rene Angelil, raped her.

Before trial, Glass made a crucial ruling that Angelil was not properly served with a subpoena, and Angelil didn’t have to testify. The Nevada Supreme Court is considering an appeal from Kwon and Sung, whose lawyers argue they should have been able to confront their accuser.

More recently, Glass was assigned the case of husband-and-wife professional bodybuilders Craig Titus and Kelly Ryan, accused of slaying their live-in assistant, Melissa James. The trial is set to begin in June.

Glass has dropped in ratings by county bar association members, from 80 percent favoring retention in 2004 to 71 percent in 2006. Ratings are compiled every two years by the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper.

One critic surveyed in 2004 said Glass worked hard and meant well but needed training in “rules of evidence, law and procedure.”

A veteran defense lawyer said Glass today is tough, fair, knowledgeable about the law, and “sensitive to both sides of the aisle.”

“She can take the bull by the horns and make tough decisions,” John Momot said. “She does not cave in.”

This Jackie Glass judge for the OJ Trial strikes me as an odd coicidence after checking up on her past as well and the trials that she has ruled on. Cole Ford tried to plead guilty to her and she was noted saying that he was “incompetent for trial”. She sentenced him to a mental facility and saved the guy. SHE WORKED IN TELEVISION. I mean who else would love a good story but a journalist. Wait until her book is released. My guess is that the Goldmans have contrived this whole scheme against him to finally put him away.

Not exactly sure why I vent here about it.
Are most of the people here from Vegas?

Anyways thanks for listening, sad to hear that the OJ Trial may take longer than expected and push the trial for Craig Titus & Kelly Ryan back a year or so more.

  2. Phil Says:

I think that Judge Glass will blow this case. Craig and Kelly have a very good chance..if they can ascape premeditation.. of pleading insanity do to all the gear and meth. And that would leave a pretty definitive chance of them serving less time!! Just a thought…Who knows?

  3. Jimtheknob Says:

No most people on here are from Saskatchewa

  4. Old Time Fitness Competitor Says:

I didnt think that being a drug addict = being insane????? or even mentally ill????? I can see it being used to escape premeditation but I cant imagine drugs being an excuse for anything else. Drugs are a choice right?? It would be like a drunk killing someone with his car and saying he was insane because he was drunk while driving. Sorry, I dont think that defense will get them anywhere.

  5. Phil Says:

    OTFC..

I think with the right lawyering, anybody can be insane no matter how you got that way. Because I know Craig’s bolts are loose!

  6. shockandawe Says:

Just because you read that Glass has tried cases and ruled on insanity, doesn’t mean that that is what Cristalli, et. al. are going to do with Titus and Ryan. They won’t. They are being represented and tried togehter, remember, so no one can claim that. I mean, no battered wife sh*t and no insanity… Drugs, in this day and age, are never seen as “insanity” !

However, is it possible that Glass could just botch the case? Sure. Ito did. But I don’t think so. Remember how ruthless and relentless she was with Titus in the beginning. She hates his ass - just like the judge in Alabama that put Craig on the 7th or 8th floor of the Pen over there, in high risk accommodations with murderers and rapists, when he was in on a drug charge - all because he rubbed her ass the wrong way.

    Glass is the same.

I think they’ll piss her off - Titus will, at least, even more than he has. And now that Kelly is in the same camp - good news for her!!!!! She’ll go down too.

  7. Old Time Fitness Competitor Says:

Good point, I guess since they are together it will be hard to claim they were both insane. I do agree with Phil though that they probably are at a minimum, NOT stable!!!

I never said drugs were sane Shock. THe point was that drugs alone cannot be a reason to claim insanity. Common, if so there are few people out there I would like to do in. I could just get wasted, kill them and claim insanity - right? That’s all I a ment. Besides, I thought insanity was really hard to prove??? Is that not so in Vegas???

Someone said, on here, that the OJ case could push the CT and KR case back either later. Is that true?

  8. Phil Says:

People and lawyers go to the insanity card as the easy escape. Normally drugs are the reason they do things that are insane, no matter if they have mental issues from childhood or not. Kelly and Craid are truly insane! They lost their marbles. If the lawyers could go to the insanity card, they would do it..with the mountain of evidents against them, it would be the best way to go!

Shock, how come they can’t go to that card because they are being tried together? I know they couldn’t go to the battered wife card…I get that. But couldn’t they plead insane being tried together. I really don’t know? The bottom line is though, they are both insane ! And I would bet Craig has been insane since he came into the world. I know that dude, he has always been a little off..ya think?

    phil,

Insanity pleas are few and far between, and not all that successful, mainly because they can’t be substantiated. It is very difficult to make an insanity plea fly.

Shock is right. No insanity pleas for these two.

I’m new to the bodybuilding scene, just moved to Venice. People in Gold’s were talking about the Titus case so I googled it and came up with this site. SOme of the rats at Gold’s also said Titus was way too smart to get convicted of this. Word on the street as I understand it was that he was one of the heaviest hitters in the industry, something about being part owner in the Olympia contest or something, as well as a top pro. Any truth to that?

  11. darkstar Says:

    HBD,

I know nothing about Titus’ “heaviness” in the industry, but…

If Titus was so damn smart, he wouldnt be where he has been for the last two years: sitting on his ass in jail waiting to be tried on several serious felonies.

    Period.

  12. Honking Big Dude Says:

    Mr. Star,

The question begs the answer that if he was dumb, he would have been convicted already. The fact he has managed to take what appears to be a slam dunk case and drag it out for two and a half years and maybe get it dropped, may mean he really is one of the brightest examples of the modern bodybuilder.

Aside from that…anybody here ever been to Gold’s in Venice? I keep hearing rumors about gay sex in the men’s showers. I’m thinking of changing gyms.

  13. darkstar Says:

    HBD,

Unfortunately I think you do not understand how the wheels of justice turn…

Believe me, Titus has had diddly squat to do with the delays or scheduling of this case. Most of it is due to common attorney motion filing, haggling and delays from Kelly’s side trying to get her lawyer issues resolved. Titus is no brainiac.

No case is a slam dunk. Does OJ come to mind?

If Titus is the “brightest example of the modern bodybuilder”, then you can stick a fork in the industry…

  14. Honking Big Dude Says:

    OJ…ok, you got me there.

    “Titus is no brainiac”

    Hahaahahaahaa

I like that…it would make a great t-shirt or bumper sticker.

  15. shockandawe Says:

    UNDERSTATMENT OF THE CENTURY:

    Titus is no brainiac.

    rflmao!! :)

    Here’s a fork in your eye…err…industry!!

  16. Phil Says:

    HBD..

I’ve been training at Golds Venice since the late 80’s..Titus is pretty stupid..to say the least. However, there has never been gay sex in the bathrooms. You can barely fit one body in those bathrooms.. let alone two!

Back in the day, there were a few pro bodybuilders that were posing in posing trunks in DR’S offices for steroids. The Dr was busted and the bodybuilders had to take the stand to testify. Troy Zuck and I think Jim Quinn covered his ass, and said that he was shooting amino acids. I think Titus might have been one of the guys..I’m not for sure?

  17. Euromuscle Says:

Guys i use to workout at Gold’s Venice. Don’t know what is happening in the showers. But fact is that Bodybuilders use to screw in the posing room.

  18. shockandawe Says:

    Euromuscle,
So did you see some hot guy on guy action? Small limp dicks dueling like some sad swan-necked swords? CHRIST! These guys couldn’t get a girl up!

Most of the women who date them are loser/prostitutes/molestation victims. BB’s attract victims so they can victimize them further. F&cking in the posing room is par for the course - doesn’t surprise me. Between guys like Ray Liotta cokehead in Gold’s being trained, so high out of his mind, he wants to jump off a bridge, to skank-ass basketball players like Scotty Pippin hitting on Amy Fadhli.. they’re all limp dick losers.

  19. Administrator Says:

Shock you sound a little bitter. Did you get used by the boys because you had a column in a magazine at the time?
